One of Prague's theatres, founded in 1971 by David Vávra and Milan Šteindler. The theatre is currently located in the Dobeška Theatre in Prague 4.
It was the main driving force behind the Pražská 5 group, further comprising the theatres Mimóza, Vpřed, Kolotoč and Křeč, which represented the most significant generational movement of the 1970s and 1980s and brought about a revival of the theatre scene of the time. The Cellar was not only the oldest of the Prague 5 theatres, but also the most numerous and the most persistent: it continues to perform without major breaks to this day.
