Since 1884, the National Theatre Brno has been used in various variations by several associations and organisations. In 2001, the Statutory City of Brno established the National Theatre Brno, a contributory organisation. It is a multi-ensemble institution consisting of three ensembles: drama, opera and ballet, each ensemble having its own management and dramaturgy. Currently, the National Theatre Brno has three theatre buildings: Mahen Theatre, Janáček Theatre and Reduta Theatre. The theatre was modelled on the National Theatre in Prague, which opened in 1881, and began operations in 1884.
