World and the Theatre’s sixth English e-publication available online

The sixth edition of the English version of the Czech theatre magazine World and Theatre is available online. The issue reflects selected theatre events from years 2021 and 2022.

In Fear Barbora Etlíková and Karel Král – the incoming editor and the retiring editor-in-chief of the World and the Theatre magazine – engage in an intergenerational dialogue. Barbora Etlíková’s Working on a better climate looks back at the You don’t have to endure it! student initiative that was a protest of Czech theatre academies students’ against the misuse of power by the academies’ staff. Jakub Škorpil’s Such a great loss of (new) blood discusses resignation of the director Daniela Špinar from her post of the Artistic Director of the National Theatre Drama section. Other article by Škorpil, Last drops, takes a closer look at Špinar’s last season in the National Theatre and its repertoire. Finally, Vladimír Mikulka’s Oh my god, and now what? text discusses staging of Maxim Gorky’s Vassa Zheleznova at the National Theatre.
