ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine in Prague

ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine’s performance L_UKR_ECE was presented during the 22nd Prague Fringe festival. L_UKR_ECE is a story of one night in Rome that changed the course of history. The performance is an attempt to artistically reflect on the topic of violence by promoting the statement of life and power beauty. It was presented during three evenings (25.-27.5.2023) in Prague’s Divadlo Inspirace.

The show is a multi-disciplinary and multicultural project based on The Rape of Lucrecia by William Shakespeare, Ukrainian folk songs, Taras Shevchenko, Lesia Ukrainka and Christina Bila poetry, Ovid’s testimonies and the documented stories of women from the Kyiv region, East and South of Ukraine. It combines physical theatre with Shakespearean verse, an approach to authentic Ukrainian drama based on the Les Kurbas method.

It was designed and executed during the Shakespeare Festival in Craiova, Romania, in May-June 2022, the Gdansk Shakespeare Festival, Poland, in July 2022, and at Pro.Act Fest in Kyiv, Ukraine, in August 2022.
