New-circus ensemble Cirk La Putyka performed in Montreal, Canada

The new-circus ensemble Cirk La Putyka performed in Montreal from 12 to 16 July. Thanks to its famous local troupes, it is considered the capital of the new circus. Cirk La Putyka subsequently headed to New York and the Hungarian Sziget Festival.

The first Czech troupe to be included in the programme of the international festival of new circus Montréal Complètement Cirque was Cirk La Putyka. This prestigious world event was held in Canada for the fourteenth time. In addition to more than a dozen shows in the main selection (from Argentina, Canada, Australia, the United States, Mexico, France and the Czech Republic), the programme included many side or parallel events, circus exhibitions and street performances. The festival took place over eleven days on the bustling Avenue Saint-Denis and its surrounding area, at the TOHU circus centre on the outskirts of the city, and at allied theatre and cabaret venues.

In Montreal, members of the ensemble performed the new circus production Runners, which scored points at last year’s Fringe show in Edinburgh, Scotland. The main part of the set is a giant treadmill, which travelled overseas in a container for a month.
