The World festival of Puppet Theatres in Charleville-Mézières hosts 112 creations, Czech company Fekete Seretlek & Studio Damúza among them

The World Festival of Puppet Theatres came into existence in 1961 by the troupe Les Petits Comédiens de Chiffons. Today the festival includes the world’s largest gathering of puppeteers every other year in Charleville-Mézières, the support of artistic creation through the co-production of shows, the hosting of artists in residence, as well as the promotion and distribution of show and continuous work all year round in order to promote puppetry and develop audiences in schools, in organizations and within the general public.

The 20th edition of the World festival of Puppet Theatres dedicated to its former director Jean-Luc Félix, who recently passed away is not only an immense pleasure but also an opportunity to highlight the progress made and the new territories explored by the arts of puppetry since its emancipation from stereotypes.

Czech puppet theatre will be represented by the company FEKETE SERETLEK & STUDIO DAMÚZA and the artists Pavol Smolárik, Anna Bubníková, Jiří N. Jelínek, Ivo Sedláček, Matija Solce and Jan Meduna this year. On September 25 – 26 they will present their show Kar. This Russian realism cabaret creates live dramaturgy based on Russian traditions and on Anna Karenine’s tale. Accordion, percussion, violin, cello, double-bass and five voices perform a unique combination of music, theatre and intimate scenes drawn from moving objects.
