Sixth edition of Cirkopolis festival will run February 10 – 16, 2019

Partner acrobatics, dance synthesis, challenging acrobatic performances, sophisticated object handling or juggling performances will be presented at the sixth edition of Cirkopolis, the festival of independent contemporary circus. The theatre stage of Akropolis PalacePonec Theatre and Karlín Barracks, which is the new venue, will swarm with contemporary circus for seven days.

The festival will open with the juggling performance LOOP performed by Cie Stoptoï. The expressive rhythm of drums accompanies juggling duo’s playful transformations and surprising technical niceties. The Catalunian trio PSiRC hovers among acrobatics, dance and sophisticated object handling at the visual and motion concert Acrometria. In their poetic performance Memo, partners and acrobatics duo Zinzi and Evertjan explores limits through which acrobatics and partnership are seen as a journey of mutual exploration. The performance Masse Critique by the French company Lonely Circus is half-comic, half-tragic and interconnects concert and circus features with an art installation. The final performance of the festival will be Berlin Circus Festival, which will rehearse a once-in-a-lifetime performance Cirkopolis vol. 6 at CIRQUEON in Nusle, which will be the opening and closing performance at the same time.

Czech artists will be represented by Eliška Brtnická’s acrobatic site-specific performance Opticon, Lukas Blaha and Eva Stará’s DÓ, which engagingly interconnects dance and circus in haiku poetry. The last performers are students and graduates of the professional circus schools in Cirkopolí Cirksession.
