The Zlín Project
Zlín is a Moravian city in the Czech Republic, whose greatest development took place in the first half of the 20th century, thanks to the family of Tomas Bata, who founded a shoe company here. Over the years, the company has grown into several factories that, in addition to footwear, produced tires, bricks, and planes, and a huge number of job seekers came to Zlín, who naturally became the new inhabitants here. The growing company influenced the appearance of the entire city, and since it took place at a time when architecture was dominated by functionalism, Zlín became an almost purely functionalist city, and thus an architectural uniqueness.
“Tomas Bata’s advisor, Berty Ženatý, wanted to replace fairy-tale characters in children’s stories in the 1920s with clever and skilled industrial workers.”
A puppet production about everyday life that is functional, modern, universal, model, routine and effective. Every day, all the time. Until an error occurs.
About the company
The creative team of the Zlín production is composed of students of the KALD DAMU master’s program and a student of the Department of Sound Production at FAMU, who, among other things, share a passion for small things and minimalist music.
Tygr v tísni is an independent theater group that, since its creation in 2010, has been investigating the foundations of contemporary European society, its culture and, ultimately, the possibilities of its survival.
The journeys of these ensembles were connected precisely through the production Zlín, which was included in the repertoire of the ensemble Tygr v tísni and is regularly performed on the home stage of the ensemble – in the Vila Theater in Štvanice.
