A fragile, illusory sci-fi dance performance about robots, humanity, and hope by choreographer Jana Burkiewiczová. The end of the world you would wish to experience. Five humanoids awaken in an empty, forgotten warehouse in a world without people and find traces of humans within the algorithms of their own programmes. A new evolution begins.
In an intangible, visually captivating world of the most colourful dreams with excellent filters, we seek hidden points of emotions. Together with the team behind the script of the award-winning performance “The Island!” we venture into the world of sci-fi in contemporary society.
About the company
The BURKICOM group of choreographer and director Jana Burkiewiczová is among the foremost Czech contemporary dance and physical theatre groups. Since its establishment in 2015, Jana has been making the label synonymous with uniquely original performances which transgress artistic genres and tease out pressing issues of contemporary society – with lightness and humour, without a trace of moralising or mentoring. Environmental grief in The Bear Who Floated on an Ice Floe (2017), the insatiable urge for destruction in The Biggest Wish (2018), the search for heroism in The Pink Samurai (2020), and the collapse of life-affirming relationships in the allegorical The Island! (2021). The Island! performance earned BURKICOM a nomination for the Theatre Critics Award in 2021, along with a nomination for the Performance of the Year award. It was also nominated for the Divadelní noviny Award and the Thalia Awards in 2022.
Jana Burkiewiczová graduated from The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and, apart from her original works staged under her BURKICOM label, she choreographs for Czech Television as well as for large-scale social events (Elite Model Looks, Prague’s Designblok, the Moravian Gallery opening, Czech Grand Design). Her most recent work produced outside of BURKICOM is the original choreography for Ikarie for the Rhapsodia Bohemica programme of the ballet troupe of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, staged to the music of Zdeněk Liška from the Ikarie XB1 film. She is also the initiator of the international Bread & Dance Prague networking platform, which BURKICOM has been producing since 2023.
