The Plug

obr

Come with us on an adventure into the boundless world of a proper domestic bathroom, where the bath is full of a thick, magical, bubbly foam, a stream of imagination runs out of the tap, and parents marvel at the colourful tiles and their children’s inventiveness. What happens when the bath overflows? When your lego floats away? When the soap talks and the towel gets a tan? What happens when you don’t wash your hands? What happens if you don’t wash them until tomorrow? How long will mum stay in the water and dad stay dry? How many carp will fit into an average Czech washbasin? And where has the plug got to?
A new production for very young children and their parents, which explores the reliability and verifiability of parental guidance, especially the claim that “Mum is always right.” Performed for you by the extraordinarily exceptional actor-parent duo Nataša and Michal, with DJ Hubička and his bubbly music, and a hand-crafted set partly created during the performance and with your assistance.

About the company

Minor is a theatre in Prague that specialises in performances for children and young people, while also keeping adult viewers in mind. It collaborates with major figures from the theatre and film stages, such as Petr and Matěj Forman, Lenka Vagnerová, Braňo Holiček, Jiří Havelka and Jan Jirků, among others. Its productions make use of innovative approaches and modern technologies and represent a broad palette of stage genres (plays, musicals, puppet shows, motion theatre and multimedia performances, new circus, pantomimes, etc.). Minor also engages in educational activities, organising thematic programmes to accompany particular productions, as well as a wide range of other workshops and courses. During the pandemic, the theatre launched TV Minor, its own VOD platform offering short, animated films made by students and graduates of performing arts colleges in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Since 1998, Minor has been directed by Zdeněk Pecháček. Under his leadership, the theatre moved in 2001 from Senovážné náměstí to its current home in what were then the dilapidated former premises of the Scout Cinema on Vodičkova street. After its complete renovation, the theatre won the Building of the Year award in 2002 and the Mayor of Prague’s Prize for its creation of a unique space for children’s cultural activities and recognising its demanding renovation of the previously ruined Scout Cinema. The distinctive interior, designed by architect Viktor Korejs and artists Barbora Zichová, Jakub Zich and Jana Zichová, contributes to making the Minor theatre a unique experience for the entire family.

Minor’s productions are critically acclaimed and enjoy substantial public popularity. Recent award-winning productions include: The Hopeful Brothers (several nominations at the 2022 Thalia Awards, four prizes at the Skupova Plzeň festival), Zá-to-pek! (2020 Thalia Award for Ondřej Nosálek), Nanuk (two prizes at the 2021 Mateřinka festival), Mom, Are We There Yet? (City of Plzeň Prize for Lenka Volfová and Jiří Jelínek), Land of Sounds (Theatre Critics’ Prize for Marek Doubrava), and many more.
