Can a film pass on a message if no one watches it? Does a sound recording that no one listens to remain silent? Is it possible to describe a performance that no one has seen? Unless the content is consumed by a live person, the medium does not serve its full purpose. Are archives places where things survive, or slowly disintegrate and die?
A physical poem, Still Waiting is a solo inspired by Beckettian themes and imagery and John Cage’s Silence. Through elements of physical theatre, dance and object manipulation, it explores themes of memory, the permanence of information and timelessness.
In the Archive, where the body of the young archivist not only records information but itself becomes a carrier of information, questions arise: What is worth recording? And aren’t the objects we leave behind for eternity merely an illusion?
About the company
Lukas Bliss is a multidisciplinary practitioner with roots in contemporary circus, physical theatre and dance. He co-founded Us Boys Who Go Out Together, a physical improv group, and the contemporary circus company Cink Cink Cirk.
In his work, he primarily explores objects and different ways of communicating or interacting with them. Using elements of puppetry and combining dance and object manipulation, he strives for spontaneity and the exploration of improvisation in his pieces. Following on from his most recent solo LAVABO, which was nominated for The Czech Dance Platform, he continues his object-based research, this time delving into physical and object memory and the kinds of experiences we store in different objects.
In addition to his own work, he has worked and collaborated with companies and artists including Tantehorse, Spitfire Company, POCKETART, Farm in the Cave, La Putyka, Eliška Brtnická, and more.
