A slapstick puppet performance with English roots.
When Judy challenges Punch to care for their screaming baby, he decides to handle everything his own way, including Judy and the other characters. But when death finally comes, the real drama begins. How will it end? It’s anybody’s guess.
About the company
Buchty a loutky (Cakes and Puppets) is an alternative puppet theatre group producing and performing plays for children and adults.
Buchty a loutky was founded in 1991 in a student dormitory in Cheb, West Bohemia, by recent graduates of the Puppetry Department at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). Since then, the troupe has written and performed 60 productions, including several animated films for both children and adults, and many one-off projects in the fields of alternative theatre, music, and film, often combining all these genres.
At present, Buchty a loutky regularly perform at the Švandovo Theatre in Prague’s Smichov district, where they also have a small base. For much of the time, the troupe is on tour and gives around 250 performances a year throughout the Czech Republic and abroad.
