Klaus is ordinary. He is a sweet, sensitive boy who likes to bake and water flowers. Because he is thorough, he does it often. But not so often that it becomes weird. He would like to find some friends with whom he could share his passion for sweets.
Born in the Bavarian countryside in Germany, Klaus Nomi was attracted to theatre and art from an early age. He sang about nuclear mutants in a heavy German accent. His performances included elements of New Wave, Kabuki and Bauhaus. Nomi’s artistic career was relatively short, yet he left a strong mark on the pop-rock scene thanks to his imaginative stage creations and great vocal range. The cabaret style he created is still imitated today. His stylised transformation into an alien element is widely known.
Nomi is unknown. Nomi doesn’t fit. Nomi loves the drama of the silent film and the eyes of Maria Callas. Nomi asks but doesn’t answer. Nomi is a term that does not require explanation.
A monodrama about divisiveness and the incompatibility of two equally important desires – understanding and self-determined artistic expression. About what it’s like to be either too much or too little, but never just enough. About exclusion, perhaps a little deliberate, but still devastating. About what it’s like to be weird among the weird.
Klaus Nomi was like no one else… but sometimes maybe he wanted to be.

About the company
Studio Hrdinů is an open theatre space notable for its clearly defined dramaturgy and a distinctive circle of collaborating theatre artists. The primary dramaturgical focus is original, arthouse-style, directorial projects, with an emphasis on international productions and transcending the genres and boundaries of artistic disciplines. Studio Hrdinů strives for a challenging, yet relatable dramaturgy. Studio Hrdinů produces dramatic theatre productions that highlight experimental approaches and artistry.
Since Autumn 2012, the main productions have been staged at Studio Hrdinů (with a floor area of 1,144m2) in the Trade Fair Palace of the National Gallery in Prague. The venue is located in a former cinema that was destroyed in the Trade Fair Palace fire of 1974. Studio Hrdinů’s ongoing activities have brought the venue back to life and returned it to the cultural map of Prague.
The fundamental and most important aspect of our concept is to hold genuine interdisciplinary artistic dialogue, transcending artistic boundaries in terms of time, genre, form, or topic. Our dramaturgy is based on a superstructural approach resulting in a unique synthesis of form and content.
We continually seek progressive forms of dramatic expression. The venue’s distinct artistic profile has been created through the linking of drama professionals with various visual artists. Studio Hrdinů keeps pace with other European theatres in terms of stage design, graphic design and conceptual art. Since we aim to enrich dramatic theatre with the fine arts, visual artists enjoy a greater degree of participation in all our productions.
