The kitchen – the centrepiece of every home. A place where housewives indulge in scandalous gossip about things that remain a mystery to men. A place where a Sunday roast cooks in the oven, a hidden bottle of spirits lurks behind the flour, the crying in the next room goes unheard, and daughters learn how to cut out cookies and master the art of being an exemplary wife and homemaker. The kitchen, the natural domain of women.
Um, what?!
Kitchen Porn is a new play by the actresses and performers of the theatre collective Nebojsy, this time focusing on the oppression of women in society. In addition to mining their own experiences, creators Kristýna Štarhová and Tereza Holubová drew inspiration from Šárka Homfray’s book Proč jsme tak navštané? (Why Are We So Angry), which addresses gender inequality.
