Hunters Have Eyes for Crying is a series of performative audio walks exploring the return of wolves and bears to the Central European landscape as an example of more-than-human unruliness, resistance and a disruption of the normative paradigm that has marginalised large predators for centuries.
We perceive them not only as biological species, but as beings that share space and history with us and open up possibilities for a different kind of coexistence. In this relationship, respect does not imply idealisation or romanticisation, but rather a willingness to live alongside something that preserves its own autonomy.
By telling the stories of specific wolf and bear families, we examine relationships of care, courage and autonomy in an environment where large carnivores are increasingly perceived as threats rather than as vital parts of the ecological balance.
The projects were created in collaboration with experts from the environmental organisations Hnutí DUHA Šelmy, My sme les and the Wildlife Rescue Station Zázrivá.
About the company
Divadlo Setkání is an artistic collective operating at the intersection of theatre and performance art. We explore relationships between human and more-than-human beings, focusing on telling stories from more-than-human perspectives. Our work combines theatrical and visual art approaches with ecological and socially engaged themes. In theatre performances, performative (audio)walks, installations, and other non-traditional theatrical forms, we explore the potential for dialogue between art, science, and community.
