“Ladies and gentlemen!
You will see what you have not seen,
and you will hear what you have not heard.
Circus Perfecto is here!”
The hall lights up and the neon glows: CIRCUS PEFRECTO.
What? Pe-f-r-ecto? Something’s wrong again!
The ageing principal of Circus Perfecto travels with a handful of performers, reminiscing about the glory days of old and dreaming of a bright future. However, his young artists are unable to recreate or even reject the principal’s mastery, his perfect precision and his time-honoured craft. In contrast, they prioritise their spontaneity, directness, randomness and lived presence.
The production ponders the question of what “true art” really is: perfect craft or, above all, authenticity? The theme resonates all the more strongly as the contrasts between artists with and without Down syndrome come into the play.
The production is language barrier-free and uses pantomime and physical theatre.
About the company
We are a theatre where young actors and authors with Down syndrome encounter non-disabled professional actors. In this connection (and dialogue), we see a chance to create professional productions with distinctive theatrical aesthetics.
At Aldente Theatre, we believe that people with Down syndrome have a unique understanding of the world, along with specific performance abilities. Founded in 2008, Aldente Theatre established itself as a theatre for actors with Down syndrome in 2014.
We do not have our own venue. In Brno, we perform at the BARKA Theatre and the Leitner Club. We tour regularly and perform at theatre festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad.
We organise workshops for schools, which help the students to grasp the idea of stage creation and allow them to become closer to people who are different from them.
We collaborate with the Theatre Faculty of Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno on various research projects and reflect on our work in the form of artistic research.
We strive to establish a fully professional theatre (both operationally and artistically), drawing inspiration from similar groups abroad.
We dismantle the limits of disability, expanding the limits of art.
