Dance and Words – online talks about alternative forms

On Tuesday, 28 September at 2 PM (CET), the Dance and Performing Arts Criticism in Europe project will organize a panel discussion regarding alternative forms of performances and written texts, which will also feature the relation between dance and words. Norwegian dance critic Hild Borchgrevink, the project member and panel host, will be accompanied by Czech dance critic Lucie Hayashi, choreographer and programmer Jana Ryšlavá, British dance critic Ka Bradley, and Norwegian choreographer and performer Mette Edvardsen.

Dance has transformed into many other forms during the pandemic. Dancers who could not perform for live audiences began to explore alternative forms, such as writing letters, dance in empty museums, exchange of dance scores. They organized public marches or instructed their audiences on how to dance and work.

The first public discussion of the project took place in June and featured dance critics’ experience in the pandemic. The discussion and workshop that will take place this autumn will keep developing the topic of dance criticism in the coronavirus times. The event will take place online at the international festival of contemporary dance, circus, and motion theatre MOVE Fest Ostrava.
