The 6th edition of the opera and music biennial, dedicated to Leoš Janáček’s work, took place from November 17 to December 5 last year and achieved a record-breaking attendance with 13,278 viewers with a ticket from 30 countries all around the world. The auditorium was full in more than 95 per cent on average. According to Glaser and Heřman, the award is an opera counterpart of the Oscar. Thus, it is a clear message that Janáček’s work still resonates both internationally and in the Czech Republic. The audience could see the complete stage works of the composer at the festival last year. The showcase was commenced by the new production of The Cunning Little Vixen, performed by the National Theatre Brno. The festival also welcomed the Flemish Opera, Stanisław Moniuszko Grand Theatre from Poznan and the Welsh National Opera. The 7th edition will take place in autumn 2020. This year also includes several events and concerts, which will help pass the time. Jenůfa will return to the National Theatre after the break of two years, directed by Martin Glaser. Jan Jiranský will play the composer’s renovated piano in November and Pavel Haas Quartet will perform in Reduta in December, playing Janáček’s Intimate Letters.
