We likely all remember the international scandal: two members of the feminist collective Pussy Riot were sentenced to a high-security Siberian prison. In the scenic composition Mother of God, Banish Putin, we revisit this story to uncover its deeper layers – from the turbulent history of Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour to the corruption within the Russian Orthodox Church and the chilling evolution of Putin’s ideological rhetoric.
The performance is anchored by three actress-vocalists who weave together a tapestry of litany-like chants, rhythmic slogans, ironic commentary, angry outbursts, and silent grief. Their electrifying energy is fueled by the raw, live accompaniment of a three-piece band.
About the company
An experimental platform for the theatre of opening mouths, the theatre of words and sounds, the theatre of objects, the theatre between concert and art installation, the theatre of silence. Founded in 2007 by director and author Jiří Adámek Austerlitz, Boca Loca Lab focuses on stage forms based on the principles of musical composition. Other characteristic features include minimalist acting, experimentation with text and vocal expression, as well as a specific way of working with objects that reflects puppetry and artistic conceptualism.
