Following the performative walk Děti U, Děti U: FRAGMENTS is its after-echo, memory and resonance. At Palác Akropolis, the audience encounters care for life, dying and death through shifting perspectives; they assemble the overall experience themselves by fusing their own story with the captured shards of others.
In a multi-genre journey through Palác Akropolis, a landscape traversed by a seriously ill child, their parents, family, friends and acquaintances is illuminated via performance lecture, audio, video, participatory collective reading, dance and song. Over the course of two hours, the audience has the opportunity to experience the supportive network that palliative care represents from different vantage points: as an observing witness, as a parent and, ultimately, as the child. At its individual stops, Děti U – FRAGMENTS opens intimate spaces for glimpsing personal stories that celebrate life and hopes for living well in close proximity to death.
About the company
The Czech theatre company Tantehorse acts as a platform for original works, producing high-quality, socially resonant productions, as well as a producing platform, creating space for new choreographers and authors in the field of dance and movement art.
Our core work includes movement productions (Light in the Darkness, S/he is Nancy Joe, Faith, etc.), which have regularly achieved international renown since the beginnings of Tantehorse, multi-genre and innovative productions (Osudety, a project at the intersection of performance, installation and escape game), performance lectures (Fears), performative productions (30-hour Momentum), and, above all, Invisible I.-III, a documentary series of autobiographical monodramas about invisible women artists with extraordinary life stories (Hannah, Barbora and Iris).
A secondary line of work includes productions created to support the mentoring of young artists. These include Tantelab, a long-term laboratory bridging the end of studies and a professional artistic career, where performers gain theoretical and practical stage experience through various activities and in a safe environment, and the Emergency Dances series, which gives young choreographers the opportunity to create their first original works. Emergency Dances has already had four rounds of performances, resulting in over twelve original works, including Jáma Lvová and Sádlo Ridina Ahmed.
Tantehorse aims to bring new and original influences to the Czech dance and theatre scene, investing in detailed research processes, cross-overs and immersive projects. Tantehorse is led by Mirenka Cechova, a recognised author, director, choreographer and performer, whose award-winning and socially critical thinking has been provoking and changing the Czech theatre scene in tandem with Tantehorse since 2010.
The other leaders of our ensemble include dramaturg and theatrical lecturer Kristyna Boháčová, choreographer and performer Marketa Vacovska, and philosopher Alice Koubová. Tantehorse has worked with many artists, including: Martin Hůla, Marketa Vacovska, Alice Koubová, Filip Horn, Mašout Hukela, Kristyna Boháčová, Dano Kozlik, Jiří Šmirk, Radim Vizvary, Martin Špetlík, Judita Hoffmanová, David Mangel, Magdalena Malinová, Nitish Jain, Nhung Dang, Vi Huyen Tran, Taro Tamura, Tereza Holubová, Klára Kočárková, Kristýna Štarhová, Aneta Bočková, Kateřina Jabůrková, Daniela Kolková, Andrej Lyga, Eduard Adam Orszulik, Eva Chudomelová, Barbora Vašků Kaufmannová, Lucia Škandíková, Hana Frejkova, Markéta Jandová, Eliška Benešová, Tereza Petrová, Viktória Pejková, Michaela Stará, Alica Minar, Simona Rozložníková, Ridina Ahmedová, Nikola Krizkova, Eva Stará, Bora Debnárová, Jindriska Krivankova, Martin Talaga, Denis Bastuga, Kristyna Kuzvartova, Sabina Bockova, Johana Pocková, Denisa Musilova, Ingrid Zotova-Mikshina, Lukas Blaha Bliss, Hlína Hlinková, Viktor Černický, Vojtěch Hříbek, Helena Urban, Sabine Seume, Nina Vangeli, Petr Boháč and many others.
