Essay on Light

Essay on Light is an experimental puppet production based on an interest in theatre technology, as well as the belief that it is important to share our thoughts on creation and artistic form through the form itself, thus bringing the possibilities of contemporary theatre closer to audiences. In this mosaic of audiovisual essay, we will enter worlds where light plays an important role, whether it is the control of fire by primitive man or the transmission of the internet via optical cables.

Essay on Light aims to discover the possibilities of how to openly think about theatre through theatre itself and its own means, not only conceptually and metaphorically. With this goal in mind, we draw inspiration from the world of film, specifically from the genre of audiovisual essay, which, thanks to the use of the medium’s possibilities, is more precise and entertaining.

The project has been realised with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the city district of Prague 7, and Motus z.s. – Alfred ve dvoře Theatre.

About the company

MEC was founded at the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague via the presentation of the puppet show Entomologious (2020). The main tools of the group’s theatrical work are visual dramaturgy and the nebulous presence of the narrative. MEC intervenes in the sphere of alternative theatre and art installations. In 2023, the group was awarded by the …příští vlna/next wave… festival as talent of the year.

The permanent members of the Musaši Entertainment Company are Adam Páník, Tereza Havlová and Františka Jesenská. Friends and comrades collaborate on various group projects.
