Conductor Jakub Hrůša won the musical “Oscars” of classical music: the ICMA award for Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová with the Vienna Philharmonic
The editors-in-chief of world music magazines and representatives of international cultural institutions selected as the best recording of this year’s recordings in the Opera video category of the International Classical Music Awards the recording of Leoš Janáček’s opera Káťa Kabanová, which was created in collaboration with Jakub Hrůša and the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival.
This is a DVD of the 2022 Summer Salzburg Festival, performed by the Vienna Philharmonic, directed by Barrie Kosky, with Corinne Winters in the title role. Together with the soprano Corrine Winters, Evelyn Herlitzius as Kabanicha, David Butt Philip as Boris, Jaroslav Březina as Tichon, Benjamin Hulett as Kudrjáš, Jarmila Balážová as Varvara and Jens Larsen as Dikoj presented themselves.
Jakub Hrůša, in addition to many successful guest appearances with prestigious musical ensembles, such as the Vienna, Berlin and New York Philharmonics, is steadily building the excellent reputation of his “tribal” orchestras: he recently extended his contract with the Bamber Symphony Orchestra until the end of the 2028/2029 season. He remains the principal guest conductor of the Czech Philharmonic and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and is also music director-designate of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. He will take up this position in September 2025.
