Studio Ypsilon is based in Prague, but it was founded in 1963 in Liberec. It has two theatre halls, the so-called small studio-style stage and a larger hall reconstructed to its original form in the Art Deco style. Its creator and founder is Jan Schmid (director, designer, writer, actor). Its permanent acting ensemble includes a number of prominent personalities. Studio Ypsilon's productions combine elements of grotesque and civilian expression, live music, singing and textappeal into a specific montage in which individual elements are counterpointed. The creative method is often referred to as collective improvisation.
