Prague to contribute nearly CZK 24 million for the House of Dance

Prague councilors have approved the contribution of Prague 3 for the House of Dance, which will be established after the reconstruction of the dilapidated object of the former Municipal Spa in Žižkov. The new cultural and creative center will focus on dance and movement activities. Prague will provide CZK 24 million for the project plan.

Prague has been missing a public multifunctional cultural institution, which could provide the dancers and other artists with appropriate institutional facilities. The dance disciplines are developed dynamically, yet they have no state-supported organization due to the situation after 1989. This is why Prague 3 is preparing a project, which will turn the former spa’s long-abandoned building into the House of Dance.

The three-story building will offer space for dance, pilates, and yoga lessons. The house’s original purpose built in 1903 will stay the same, featuring wellness and a spa. The project will also connect the bike lane along the building on the bridge through a staircase. The house will be designed for professionals, schools, and the general public.

The project is now being prepared, Prague would like to obtain a building permit and choose the contractor. Construction works can start next year. The official approval could be granted the year, then the trial run may begin. The total cost is CZK 275 million, about two-thirds (CZK 188 million) will be funded by the EU, and the remaining amount will be paid by the capital and Prague 3. According to the rules, the European money must be invested by the end of 2025.
