30 CED: Center for Experimental Theatre in Brno celebrates 30 years of its existence

On 1 January 1992, the founding document of the Brno City Council established the legal entity of the Center for Experimental Theatre in Brno. What has taken place in thirty years and what are the future visions of the CED? These questions were answered at the anniversary celebrations on 1 October 2022.

Centrum experimentálního divadla / The Center for Experimental Theatre (CED) is a cultural institution that is unprecedented in structure in the Czech Republic. It combines several non-commercial stages with its artistic management and program – Goose on the String Theatre, HaDivadlo, and Terén. Thus, it creates a specific cultural network and co-creates the genius loci in Brno.

The all-day celebrations called “30 CED” took place as a joint continuous program on Saturday, 1 October 2022 at the CED area on Zelný trh in Brno. All the CED entities (Goose on the String Theatre, HaDivadlo, Terén, CEDIT magazine, and the Embassy of Independent Belarusian Culture in the Czech Republic.

On Saturday, 1 October in the afternoon, the visitors had the opportunity to go through the area at Zelný trh, including backstage and places that are not open to the public. The evening saw the opening of the exhibition of the archive and the CED utopian future, followed by a discussion about the shapes of contemporary theatre and the alternatives for the operation of cultural institutions. There was also the presentation of CED’s magazine CEDIT and the activities of the Embassy of Independent Belarusian Culture in the Czech Republic. The discussion with the contemporaries was followed by the social event directed by Ivan Buraj, with a concert in the Big Hall of the Goose on the String Theatre.
