Minister Antonín Staněk presented the Ministry of Culture Awards

The Ministry of Culture Awards were ceremonially presented at the New Stage of the National Theatre on October 21, 2018. Six outstanding figures received them from the hands of Antonín Staněk, the Minister of Culture.

The Czech State Award for Translation, the award for the lifetime achievement, went to Helena Stachová. She has been working in translation for 50 years and has translated more than two hundred works from Polish to Czech; she translated her first book when she was seventeen.

The Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Theatre, for the lifetime achievement, especially for the merits in Czech studio theatre, the profile of Studio Ypsilon and the development of the field including the education of young generation, went to Jan Schmid. The actor, director, journalist, lyrics writer, writer, playwright, scriptwriter, designer, illustrator, speaker, theatre manager and organizer, theatre teacher.

The Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Music, for lifetime composing and editorial activities as well as brave human and professional attitude in the time of oppression went to Luboš Sluka.

The Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Visual Arts, for lifetime achievement in visual arts, especially for the exceptional curator, theoretical and teaching activities as well as promotion of Czech and Slovak visual arts internationally went to Jana and Jiří Ševčík, “the most distinguished initiators of Czech artistic stage since the 1980s”.

The Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Architecture, the lifetime work in architecture, went to Růžena Žertová, “the architect of houses and things”.

The Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Cinematography and Audio Vision, mostly for his movies from the 1960s and continual production with Jiří Stránský in topics of ethics, went to Hynek Bočan.
