Alfa Theatre is back with a charming and heroic puppet adventure! After James Blond and the stars of American comedy, it’s time for another title full of puppetry magic. This one employs about eight puppets and will vibrate to the sounds of a mariachi band. Who will our hero be this time?
The progenitor of all masked superheroes, Zorro the Avenger, is back in action! Can the man with the black mask protect the villagers from the oppression of a marauding superpower? Will he win the heart of graceful Lolita? And who is actually hiding behind the mask of Zorro?
ZORRO!!! is an adventurous puppet comedy with few words, but plenty of action and live music. The creators of the production – the Liberec playwright and dramaturg Vít Peřina and Tomáš Dvořák, the director of the Alfa Theatre – were freely inspired by Johnston McCulley’s book The Mark of Zorro and cinematic interpretations, especially the 1920 film featuring Douglas Fairbanks.
About the company
The Alfa Theatre’s forerunner, the Children’s Theatre, opened in September 1966 at the ALFA premises on Americká street. In 1992, it moved to a modern building at Rokycanská 7, where it re-opened under its current name. Since 1970, the theatre has undertaken over 100 international tours and has co-organised the SKUPA’s PILSEN festival since 1967. Under the leadership of managing director Jakub Hora (appointed in 2015), the theatre’s current creative team, external colleagues and ten-strong company of actors, continue to centre the puppet as an unusually compelling stage phenomenon. ALFA Theatre performs for a broad range of spectators, including children, young people and adults. The repertoire is varied in both theme and genre, from classic and modern fairytales to world drama.
