WRECK – List of extinct species is not a sci-fi film, but a reflection of reality and human vulnerability. Still, even the darkness offers a glimmer of hope that we can regain our freedom.

The main protagonist of this genre-crossing production is a colossal, black floating entity. Is it a sea monster, the embodiment of capitalism or climate change? The answer is up to you. What is certain is that you don’t want to run into it and have it chase and toss you about like the group of performers. WRECK – List of extinct species is not a sci-fi film, but a reflection of reality and human vulnerability. Still, even the darkness offers a glimmer of hope that we can regain our freedom.
“In this work, I found my way to mass and movement. These are two sides of the same coin. Mass and bodies, movement and objects dance together to represent the invisible forces in which we are immersed. I wanted to put a collective dimension on stage, to frame the internal and external dynamics of confronting an existential problem. We find ourselves in an historic moment, when humanity has to wake up as a WHOLE. It no longer works to have one nation as a guide or to fight between nations. This is the WRECK, this is part of the past. We have to awaken a sense of belonging to a common source of life within ourselves. That’s why I needed to materialise this change on stage: from a fragmented life, isolated, lost in my own little problems to a group of beings that react and try to change events and gaze into our own depths.”

“Pietro Marullo’s ‘elastic performance’ is a staging of the struggle to survive in a precarious environment – and an example of it.” – Yesan Vasilev, Springback magazine

“…a huge black plastic, inflatable pillow-like object moves across the stage, like a hunting predator [and] human figures are swallowed and spat back out by the mysterious object. How do human groups react when they face a big danger? Our species may be manipulating the huge black pillow, and the list of extinctions is too long.” – Aesthetica magazine
