Italian writer, dramatist, director and actor Ascanio Celestini (b. 1972), is ranked among the followers of the renowned and versatile artist Dario Fo. Working with narrative theatre, he plays with language, toying with words and their meanings, and his witty, provocative, stirring and often moving texts hone in on the contemporary world, its struggles and its hidden corners, be they social inequality, child labour, the impending environmental disaster or government corruption.
