The Arts and Theatre Institute supported the participation of Czech theatremakers at the international Crossings festival in Rennes

It is the second time PerformCzech has supported the Czech delegation of professional theatremakers to visit the acknowledged international multidisciplinary Crossings festival, which has been organized by Théâtre National de Bretagne in Rennes since 2017. The festival also featured a special workshop called TNB Crossings for students and emerging artists. Participation at the festival was an excellent opportunity for Czech participants to establish international contacts. The trip was supported by the PerformCzech/Links OUT program.

The selected artists were supported in two calls – one was designated for theatre professionals and the other for students and emerging artists, who are interested in multidisciplinary work, including theatre, dance, music, and film. Czech participants appreciated the participation in the prestigious multidisciplinary showcase due to the contribution to their professional development and the development of international contacts, as well as the opportunity to get in touch with artistic practice outside Central Europe and the operation of the leading French theatre and a French university.

The main program of the festival also featured the National Theatre’s La Ronde at the Brittany National Theatre, which is the co-production partner of the show. It resonated with much positive reception from French media, professionals, and viewers. The critics appreciated the work of director Arthur Nauyzciel, as well as polished and perfect performances.

The mission of the PerformCzech department is the international promotion of Czech performing arts and mediation of information about international theatre in the Czech Republic. The program is regularly discussed and prepared in cooperation with the PerformCzech Advisory Council and implemented in cooperation with many partner institutions, such as Czech centers, international professional networks, non-governmental organizations, and state and independent national and international cultural organizations.
