Händel’s opera Alcina produced by the National Theatre Brno was performed in France

Georga Friedrich Händel’s Alcina, which premiered at the Janáček Theatre in Brno on 5 February 2022, was monumentally successful with audiences and critics. The production directed by Jiří Heřman and Václav Luks, who was in charge of music, was co-produced by the National Theatre Brno, Théâtre de Caen and Royal Opéra – Château de Versailles Spectacles. The opera could then be staged in Caen and Versailles in March and May.

Alcina, one of Händel’s most frequently performed operas, is full of dramatic emotions and powerful melodies. It was written for Royal Theatre Covent Garden in 1735 as it allowed for special stage effects. The Brno version took place on the stage of Le château de Versailles Spectacles on 11, 12 and 13 March, Théâtre de Caen saw the opera on 5 and 6 May.
