The winners of Czech State Awards and Ministry of Culture Awards for 2021

 

The Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek presented the Czech State Award for Literature and Translation and the Ministry of Culture Awards for other fields in the National Theatre on 24 October. The awards are given out on the occasion of the state holiday of 28 October. This year’s jury appointed by the Minister of Culture acknowledged eight outstanding figures of Czech culture.

State awards apply to literature and translation, Ministry of Culture Award acknowledges the merits in theatre, music, visual arts, architecture, cinematography and audiovision.

• Czech State Award for Literature went to Miloslav Topinka for his exceptional poems and essays
• Czech State Award for Translation went to Alena Morávková for her lifetime achievement.
• Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Theatre went to Hana Burešová for the modern approach to dramatic texts, internally coherent development of her style of directing, and successful management of the ensemble theatre where she and her team have approached the audience of various ages.
• Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Music went to Čestmír Huňát for his life-long organizational and educational activities, which have contributed to the development of a wide range of non-commercial music. He was engaged in the topic in the time of the lack of freedom despite the persecution.
• Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Visual Arts went to Adéla Matasová for her lifelong artistic and teaching activities, mostly the influence on establishing intermedia approaches in Czech art.
• Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Architecture went to Benjamin Fragner for the initiation and long-term management of industrial heritage research and professional education of the outputs
• Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Cinematography and Audiovision went to Zdeněk Svěrák.
• Ministry of Culture Award for the Merits in Cinematography and Audiovision went to Ester Krumbachová in memoriam.
