Václav Havel will be remembered in Paris at HAVEL 21 festival

The Czech Centre Paris will honor the memory of Václav Havel and remember his legacy live at the HAVEL 21 festival. HaDivadlo (Brno, CZ) will play Havel’s one-act play Unveiling, the programme will also feature concerts performed by Pražský výběr and songwriter Monika Načeva at the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Havel’s death. The days dedicated to Václav Havel will take place in the Czech Centre Paris on 8-17 December 2021.

The festival will open with photo exhibition of Václav Havel at the Paris Townhall at St. Sulpice Square. The legendary band Pražský výběr will open the commemorative festival in the Czech Centre on Friday 10 December at 8 p.m. HaDivadlo will perform the one-act play Unveiling on Saturday 11 December. The piece that has been in the repertoire since 5 October 2016 with regular reruns is directed by the artistic director Ivan Buraj. The theatremakers see this play as an activist work as Havel wrote an open letter to the Czechoslovak president Gustáv Husák in 1975 after he had finished Unveiling. On Saturday, the audience in Paris can experience the workshop with the Czech School without Borders or meet-and-greet with Denisa Šedivá and her book dedicated to Czech culture ABCZ or H as Havel – the Most beautiful Czech book of 2018. The programme honoring the former president, playwright, thinker, and human rights advocate will close on Friday 17 December with the concert of songwriter Monika Načeva.
