The 13th congress of the International Puppetry Association/UNIMA took place online for the first time. The Czech UNIMA Centre is represented in the executive again

The 13th congress of the International Puppetry Association took place on 19-23 April 2021. UNIMA was founded in Prague in 1929 and the congress was held online for the first time due to the current situation.

Karen Smith, the editor-in-chief of the online trilingual World Encyclopedia of Puppetry Art and the former president of UNIMA USA, was elected the new president. She will manage UNIMA for four years along with the newly elected secretary-general Dimitry Jageneau, the artistic director of the International Puppet Museum in Peruchet, Belgium.

The congress was concluded with the election of specialized commissions and their chairs from ECI, and the selection of the venue for the next congress in 2025 which will be Chuncheon in South Korea.

The Czech centre was successfully represented at the congress and the candidate of the Czech UNIMA Centre was selected as a member of the executive. It is Kateřina Lešková Dolenská, the editor-in-chief of The Puppeteer magazine and pedagogue at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy for Performing Arts in Prague. Participants in the congress also appreciated a short video about the activities of the Czech Centre UNIMA and puppetry in the Czech Republic. The video is available here.
