ITI on the Occasion of the International Dance Day: Dance and Theatre as a Cure

Today is the International Dance Day, which, as the International Theatre Institute (ITI) initiated, has been celebrated since 1982 on 29 April.

The author of this year’s message is German Dancer Friedemann Vogel. He says in his message: “Dancers are often celebrated for their physical prowess, when in fact we are sustained even more by our mental strength. I believe it is this unique combination of physical and psychological agility that will help us overcome, to reinvent ourselves to keep dancing, and to keep inspiring.” The ITI will exclusively stream a documentary on Friedemann Vogel called Incarnation of Dance on 29 April at 6 pm CET on the International Dance Day webpage https://www.international-dance-day.org.

Dancers from the Czech Republic have joined the celebration of the International Dance Day despite the lasting restrictions for performing arts. The celebrations organised by Czech dancers will be both, live and online.

The Czech National Ballet joins the International Dance Day with the online premiere of The Sleeping Beauty, which is available exclusively on the YouTube channel on 29 April. Alta Studio prepared the program for Thursday afternoon with dance companies along with a 20-minute walk for two viewers. Alta will also take part in the relay connection with the Ponec Theatre, which celebrates this special day for dancers by a physical walk and roaming in inner landscapes called Find Your Artist. The organizers from Art 4 People prepared a daylong online dance program with performances of professional theatre companies, ballet training, workshop with various dance styles, and the nationwide flashmob. The ballet company of the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec offers trailers from its repertoire called VIVA LA DANZA! on the theatre’s Facebook site and Youtube channel.
