The main awards from the OPERA 2020 festival finally arrived at the Šalda Theatre in Liberec

When the 14th edition of the Music Theatre Festival Opera 2020 ended on 2 March, nobody knew that the awards would be handed over in autumn due to the involuntary theatre break. None of the Czech theatres has managed to win six times at the most prestigious Czech music theatre festival with international participants. The opera of Šalda Theatre triumphed with Sergei Rachmaninov’s one-act pieces Francesca da Rimini a The Miserly Knight and won the “Libuška”, the main critics’ award for the best production. Moreover, Lívia Obručník Vénosová, who is a member of the company in Liberec and played Francesca, received the audience’s award for individual performance and is repeatedly the most successful performer at the festival. Two outstanding nominations also went to Pavol Kubáň, the singer of the main baritone role in both operas. The Liberec production conducted by Martin Doubravský and directed by Linda Keprtová joints two opera with a topic that analyzes the inside world of a human soul. The opera company in the F. X. Šalda Theatre is currently one theatre in the world that realizes such a unique project. The company that has been led by conductor Martin Doubravský since 2002 has a solid place at the top of the current Czech music theatre.
