“The Theatre World Brno confidently enters the second decade of its existence as one of the biggest events of its kind in our country. The clear program, top companies, and high-quality program guarantee the audience’s interest and the development in the upcoming years,” said Martin Glaser, the director of the National Theatre Brno and Theatre World Brno festival.
“With the subheading of ‘Nothing Happens’, the 11th edition of the Theatre World Brno has the dramaturgic line with carefully selected productions from all over the world to map and analyze both minor and visible changes of natural, social and political climate,” says Martin Sládeček, the programmer in the Goose on the String theatre. “We have managed to bring one of the most outstanding dance companies – Batsheva Dance Company from Israel to the dance and motion section. The antithesis to the international representative of the art of dance is outstanding dance productions, with most of them having the premiere in the past year,” says Karel Littera, the programmer of the National Theatre Brno ballet. It will be only the second time the famous dance company has hosted in our country. The Czech Republic will be represented by top independent dance companies, contemporary circus, and nonverbal theatre – Lenka Vagnerová & Company with Amazones and Václav Kuneš and 420PEOPLE with Panthera, or Losers Cirque Company with Heroes and the contemporary outstanding pantomime figure Radim Vizváry directed by David Špinar.
The ancient drama section features the scenic sketch of Seneca’s Oedipus prepared for this festival. The Mahen Theatre will see the performance of Sophocles’ Antigone performed by the Slovak National Theatre. The timeless story, which has become even more up-to-date due to the recent events in Slovakia linked to the investigation of the murder of Ján Kuciak, climax with suggestive and appellative songs by Slovak singer Katarzia she composed for the production. The National Theatre in Prague will present Oedipus the King full of pop-cultural references. The Hungarian company KV Társulat – Trafó will present Euripides’ Medeia in the Na Orlí Theatre. The play takes place in the maternity center and collective therapy.
Parents with children will have a chance to see several performances in the Polárka Theatre, and the festival is also preparing several unique projects.
