The Ministry of Culture Award went to Jan Nebeský for his theatre achievements

The New Stage of the National Theatre saw the laureates of the State Award and the Ministry of Culture Award for 2019. State Awards are assigned for literature and translation; the Ministry of Culture Awards are given out for achievement in theatre, visual arts, architecture, cinematography, and audio-visual work.

  • State Award for Literature went to Karol Sidon for his lifetime achievements in Czech literature.
  • State Award for Translation went to Anna Kareninová for her work in literature and film.
  • Ministry of Culture Award for Achievements in Theatre went to Jan Nebeský for original and inspiring contemporary theatre directing.
  • Ministry of Culture Award for Achievements in Music went to Jiří Chvála for his choir activities and successful work with young people interested in music.
  • Ministry of Culture Award for Achievements in Visual Arts went to Václav Cigler for his visual arts work, teaching, and indisputable achievements in visual arts.
  • Ministry of Culture Award for Achievements in Architecture went to Ivan Kroupa for his extraordinary attitude in the European context and his contribution to the development of contemporary architecture through teaching.
  • Ministry of Culture Award for Achievements in Cinematography and Audio-Visual Work went to Jiří Menzel for movies he undeniably contributed to the history of Czech and international cinematography, and to Jaroslav Kučera in memoriam for his willingness to experiment and original camera work that had its share in enhancing cinematographic works.
