New head of ballet in Liberec

The new head of the ballet company in Liberec will be its member, director and choreographer Marika Hanousková as of August 2019. She will replace Alena Pešková, who asked to leave the company at her request after nine years, the spokesperson of the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec Jakub Kabeš wrote in the press release. Pešková will continue working with the theatre in Liberec and will direct the autumn premiere of the ballet The Servant of Two Masters.

The commission had three candidates to the head of ballet to choose from. They recommended Hanousková, who has been the member of the company in Liberec since 2008. “I absolutely agree with the recommendation of the commission. Marika Hanousková is very talented, hard-working and communicative. She is strongly attached to Liberec, she is a local patriot, who knows the company and audiences in Liberec, and this is a great advantage,” said Jarmila Levko, the director of the theatre with tree companies.

Hanousková has staged some of her performances in Liberec – the horror Jekyll a Hyde, drama The House of Bernarda Alba or Café Reichenberg. “As a choreographer, she also worked in Plzeň, Ústí na Labem and Japan, so she can draw a comparison,” the director added. The North Bohemian Theatre in Ústí nad Labem saw her ballet inspired by Andersen’s The Snow Queen and the dance comedy The Taming of the Shrew. She directed the romantic story The Little Mermaid in the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. According to the proposal, Hanousková wants to continue in Alena Pešková’s work and wants to present an attractive and original repertoire to the audience in Liberec. “Yet she wants to focus on children more and have productions with a live orchestra,” said Kabeš.
