Miss AmeriKa

Rap Musical. The story of a woman who has fallen in love with a city in which she is a stranger.

Mckenzie Tomski is a New York misfit, an unobtrusive, yet self-confessed starer. Mckenzie is a queen of virtual loneliness in the same way as Wonder Woman, but without the tall boots and legal status. She is a creature of liquid identity, disrupting American clichés with ironic, dark and uncompromising humour. Mckenzie comes from a line of outcasts, stray people, and those who stand in the shadows, in the grey zone, dreaming their American dream: that one day they will “prove themselves.”

This multimedia project by Miřenka Čechová and Martin Tvrdý presents a crude image of life in Manhattan via a collage of music, text, rap, slam, stand-up, performance, photographs by Vojtěch Brtnický and comics by Malayan cartoonist Chin Yew. The symbiosis of all these components tells the authentic story of a woman who has fallen in love with a city in which she is a stranger.

This project is based on a book by Miřenka Čechová, Miss AmeriKa, published in July 2018 by the publishing house wo-men.

About the Company

Spitfire Company is an artistic company that creates physical, visual and dance theatre work. It is currently one of the most progressive ensembles of authorial theatre in the Czech Republic. The most important and characteristic aspects of the ensemble’s work are: the search for an original physical language for each particular performance; an emphasis on experiencing the performer’s state of being, which generates very present emotions; and dealing with human limitations and existential situations.
